Is propane safe to use?

The use of propane is very safe as long as you don't have any leaks. Propane tanks are designed to crack and release the propane. They are designed not to blow up. Propane tanks are much thicker than gasoline tanks and can withstand extreme pressure and shock.

What is the cost of propane?

This all depends on where you buy your propane from and how much you buy. Most propane distributors will give you a special price if you commit to buying so many gallons a year. The more you buy the better price you are going to receive. Talk to your local propane distributor and see what kind of a deal you can work out.

Where can I get propane?

You can get propane just about anywhere. Most hardware stores and some gas stations fill propane tanks. I recommend going right to the distributor for the best price.

 Is propane environmentally friendly?

Engines running on propane are much more environment friendly because their emissions do not contain sulphur, benzene, lead, and many fragrant hydrocarbons typical found in unleaded gasoline. These harmful substances are not present in liquid gas. Besides, in comparison with other kinds of fuel, the exhaust fumes contain:

  • 10 to 15% less carbon dioxide
  • 20% less carbon monoxide
  • 50-60% less hydrocarbons and nitric oxide

Can my vehicle be converted to propane?

Almost any gasoline vehicle can be converted. Generally, these are mostly four- stroke liquid- cooled engines. In case of technologically advanced vehicle, especially these equipped with plastic intake manifold, the only concern is to use an appropriate type of installation, which has a vital influence on its functionality. Our kits will work with these vehicles. It is not recommended to convert two- stroke engines.

Is the poweredbypropane kit hard to install?

We suggest having the kit installed by a certified technician. The installation consists of drilling and tapping holes in the intake manifold, mounting a few items, wiring, and running some copper tubing. If you choose to do it yourself, Download the installation guide from the documentation section.and reading it over before purchasing. Remember we are not responsible for any damages you cause to yourself or vehicle due to an improper installation.

Is there added engine wear using propane?

Studies over propane usage and its influence on the engine life have been conducted for many years. They have shown that propane does not shorten the engine life; on the contrary, it is established that engines running on propane last longer. It is caused by chemical components of this fuel, which is seen during combustion (less pollution). propane does not lower oil density; on the contrary, it increases its viscosity, which reduces wear of the engine (pistons, rings, cylinder headÙs walls, etc.) Generally, propane burns more completely and does not cause carbon deposit. However, there is a small disadvantage in case of 12- 20 year old cars. Namely, the carbon deposit makes kind of a ‘sealing crustÙ from the inner side of the older engine and when it runs on propane this ‘crustÙ melts and may make a small oil leak bigger. Obviously, a proper installation control and consequences of the ‘acetylene blowpipeÙ rule is a separate issue. So the installation must be appropriately selected depending on the car type. Its appropriate selection and later operating does not have any negative effects on the engine life.

Will a poweredbypropane system work in cold weather?

Yes. In fact propane works very well in the cold. Propane does not freeze until -310°  so you donÙt have to worry. Also your vehicle is started on gasoline till the engine is warm enough to switch to propane.

I installed a poweredbypropane kit now my car runs rough on propane?

First of all the most important thing is to care for a technical condition of a vehicle and especially these elements that have a direct influence on proper working of a propane installation, these are: ignition system (spark plugs, coils, high- voltage wires), intake manifold- especially air filter. In case of fuel the ignition system is subsidiary, whereas when it comes to gas this is the main cause of propanes installationÙs problems. Propane  because of its properties burns slower than gasoline.

I installed a poweredbypropane kit now my check engine light is on?

Check all the connections going to the cars sensors. Even if one sensor is disconnected it may result in a check engine light. More than likely a sensor is either unplugged or not plugged in all the way. Double check all connections.

I have a 10 gallon tank how come it only holds 8 gallons?

LPG tanks hold 80% of the amount. So when its capacity is 10 gallons it will hold 8 gallons. It results from physical and chemical properties of an LPG gas (a mixture of propane- butane and isobutane) - LPG when being heated increases its volume. This guarantee safe use of the LPG installation almost in 100%. Tests on LPG tanks show that the temperature of the LPG over 80% causes that the tank is filled completely because of the volume increase; however, this temperature is almost impossible to reach in a standard use of the LPG installation.

What kind of engine oil should I use when running on propane?

We run AMSOIL Synthetic lubricants. They have the best synthetic fluids money can buy. They offer superior protection to vital engine parts that are most susceptible to wear. You can purchase the full line of AMSOIL products at www.syntheticdealer.net

Will I lose power running on propane?

You will see a slight power increase because propane is between 100-110 octane. You will not lose any power.
